I'm considering getting an 65' F600 and converting it to a ramp truck to haul my 65' drag truck. How serviceable are the brake systems on these trucks? In regards to parts availability primarily. Should I plan on swapping out the Front and Rear axles for a modern dually setup, or are they suitable for driving on today's roads with a 3500lb vehicle on the back?
You might want to ask this over in the big truck forum also. Large Truck - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums (ford-trucks.com)
I had a 74 F600 that hauled 8000# of water and 2000# of fuel + stuff no problem. Depending on the engine in it and whether it has a 2-speed axle or not you may find the acceleration and highway speed to be not so good with a load on it.

I have a '65 F600 sitting here that was a roll back and bought by Uhaul as a service truck. Plan is to make a ramp truck by swapping bed from the N700 over. Yes the brake parts are readily avail except the drums are hard to find. Most I was able to find NOS for cheap. Did you find a '65 to buy or looking?
My '66 F600 the brakes were fantastic
My N700 Crew it's running driving but have not been out on open road or in traffic. These trucks like mine with a 24000 GVW is around 10000 empty so no problem hauling 3500 lbs

You guys with the big bad-boy trucks talking shop...
I envy the idea of having a big rig and I really like the N-Series.
Way back when I saw the blue Carroll Shelby N500 hauler I was hooked!
Sorry to hijack but I had to chime in with a passing thought/dream.

I'm browsing F-600s, I've found one I'm not sure I'll be able to close a deal on. I wanted to ask how realistic they are before I decided how much to offer. I have a few power plant options for it. I'm considering a 393w I built years ago, with maybe mild heads and cam...I also have a 76mm turbo laying around 🤔.
Boss9, would you do me a huge favor and measure the width of the F600 front fenders above the axle and if possible the bottom rear of front wheel openings?
