Hey folks, it appears my 239 EBV block is no good - water port failure that is dumping water into the crankcase. With that, I'm in the market. I had 4 Yblocks in my garage at one point and evidently choose the wrong one to go with - moving around several times forced me to thin out my extra parts.
I'm looking for a runner or runner that was recently pulled - preferable in the Pacific Northwest in order to avoid high shipping charges.
My first preference is a Cleveland 239 EBV (late 54 and 55). I have a Dearborn 54 239 EBU that needs rebuilt, but finding a cam for it is tough - recall the EBU 239 is the one that does not exchange several parts with other Yblocks.
My truck is 100% stock and I'd like to stay that way, but I'm also interested in a 256, 272 or 292 as well. I'd consider a fully rebuilt Yblock too. As I'm a stocker, the more power of the newer Yblocks is really not a factor to me.
What do you have? I'd love to pick it up and keep it running!
Photo: Cleveland 239 EBV looks pretty, but the block is shot!
If I was still thinking about switching to a 300 cu-in 6, I would talk to you about my rebuilt (and zero-time) 272!
But after getting Mummert Rams Horns, MSD distributor, MSD Atomic TBI, and the Bentsen trans adapter and all the work putting on an alternator, Aircondx and power steering pump (for the hydroboosted brakes) I better keep it!!
If I see anything around here in the NW Y-Block wise, I'll let you know!
And if you do find a car Y-block or one without a truck bell-housing, I have one complete with the clutch fork and lower cover. (actually I have 2)
Cheers,
Rick
EDIT: Wow,
Just did a bunch of searching on Craigslist around the PNW and found NO y-blocks or parts of any kind!

Rick, it sound like you have a great engine ready to go! This Reds Vintage Parts place looks interesting, and Ft. Bragg CA looks like a great road trip as I'm ve never been there. I'm going to give him a call in the morning.
Keep watching craigslist or FB market place. Years ago I bought a merc 256 that was pulled from the car a couple week after it was bought new. car got totaled and had no comp insurance so the motor was pulled and stored.I was the first one there after it was posted .Put a wanted ad evey where and something will show up,I also check the little general type stores we have around here and found a 70 superbee on a farm,no clutch, for $700. Pin through the clevis fell out and pedal went to the floor that's all it was. They are around keep at it
Brian, sorry to hear about the block problem but I'm not surprised after your posting of the water issue. Those prices at Reds for a block are really really reasonable. Finding good blocks these days is getting difficult,

If I was looking, I'd probably get this one. In addition to the bell housing and cover, I also have a starter and generator so don't forget to stop by and make me an offer I cannot refuse on all of it!

I wouldn't be concerned about it being a 312. The price is potentially good for any Y.
For the money, I would expect it to have been through a real rebuild recently, with documentation to prove it, as opposed to a gasket, ring and bearing replacement, which some people call a rebuild. I would also want to hear it running and be able to drive with it to see how "strong" it is. Judging by the looks, it doesn't appear rebuilt but maybe the owner doesn't care about aesthetics

Yeah, I guess he didn't really say it was rebuilt.
New distributor and spark plug wires. New John Mummert four barrel intake and valley cover, oil fill spout and cap. Has very low miles on engine block. Will sell three speed transmission with engine. This engine has been in my '56 Crown in storage.
I think according to Mummert, a 312 has a different crank (flange mark) and different main caps and is difficult (or impossible) to tell what it is unless you can see the crank flange or main caps.....
Not really sure what "low miles" means either.
Hey Brian, if you were to buy it, and didn't want the Mummert Manifold, I'd take it off your hands!
The 312 in SLC is tempting, but my strong stocker personality is going to win. I have found a solid 239 runner with good compression and solid oil pressure that I'm going with. Making shipping arrangements now. I'll end up with extra 239 parts of any one is interested.
