My mom recently had her 2017 Escape get backed over by a county dump truck ( a little worse than backed into, ) so it's toast, left on a wrecker. The local body shop my Family uses did the estimate, got to $14k and there was a lot more than that, so he submitted total loss to the insurance. He knew by looking, and I did too.
Now, she liked her 2017 Escape, in fact she had a 2015 before it and only bought a newer one because the old one had over 160k miles. Both 1.5L 4cyl Ecoboost. She bought the '17 with like 12k miles last November. Her one complaint was the '15 got 2 MPG better than the '17. I'm trying to convince her that a Bronco Sport is the vehicle she wants, as the roof line and visibility is better.. What MPG are people getting with the 1.5L 3cyl?. I don't think the new Escape is really a good vehicle, especially compared to the old one. I had a brand new loaner '21 Escape while my Ranger was getting undercoated and hitch installed at the dealer ( took 1 week ) and it did not impress me.. She would be looking at an on the lot Big Bend model I think, in that $30k-35 range.
My wife drives 20 miles to the city on interstate, 10 miles across town in stop & go traffic, then back again every day. First tank average was 26 mpg. Just made a 100 mile trip all interstate and averaged 30mpg. We have the Outerbanks w/ 1.5L
She's now got the insurance figured out, just waiting for her old car loan bank to receive the check from the insurance. Took longer because they tried to screw with the amount which was way less than it should have been.. Wants the Bronco Sport over the Escape for many reasons ( visibility, hatch glass opens, taller ect... ).. BUT, the local dealers are now putting the old "market adjustment" to the Bronco Sports, one local dealer has this at $2,500 which is the low end of that, but they have 2 in stock, and the same 2 were in stock last week without the $2,500 tacked on. Think there is any wiggle room on a Bronco Sport down to simply paying sticker? She has bought 3 cars from that dealer, but her last car was not They have a 2021 Escape which is a similar color/ option package inside/ out to her '17, and although the MSRP is under $2k less than the one Bronco Sport they have, with discounts and everything it's actually about $5k less... Very much a Falcon Vs Mustang situation
It's all about supply and demand. My friend in town said they marked up her used Bronco Sport. It was a customer order-return after a few weeks. I never got the details on mileage or markup. Let us know if you get sticker.
It took forever for the insurance to actually send a check so that she could settle everything and go after a new vehicle, which somewhat worries me as I use the same insurance company.. I drove her to the dealer, but they had just sold the Bronco Sport that she was going to look at. She looked at a 2021 Escape that was basically the new version of exactly what she had down to being an odd color ( Gold carat? I think ) with an ivory interior, and it was a basic SE AWD with heated seats. But did not like the car... Instead she started a deal on a Bronco Sport they have incoming which is a nicer color ( Cactus Grey ) a couple nicer options but a similar price, and because she has bought 3 vehicles from them in the past, they are eliminating their market adjustment, which is what they automatically said without me even asking.. It's kind of hard on me, because my mom will not even step foot in a dealership without me going with her
Just curious, how does she feel about the manual rear hatch?
I hate it. Ford really cheaped out there.
She didn't want a car with an auto hatch actually. The one she is getting has Co Pilot 360 as an add on, ontop of the base Big Bend pkg, but even she would care less either way. Power windows/ locks. AWD, and the ability to haul 8' lumber is her main requirements, so the hatch window was a big selling point
On my 2017 Escape Titanium with the 2.0 l I'm averaging 25 mpg. I expected to get worse with my 2022 Badlands Baby Bronco with 2.0 l but the first few tank loads look like I'm gonna do a little better, like around 27-28 mpg. We'll see, still too early to tell.

My daughter has the 1.5L in hers. They just made a trip from Virginia to Chicago and finished with an average of 23. To be fair, they did push the mountains in W Virginia both ways but the rest is pretty flat.
