ZF5 in a Superduty

Hey everyone! I’m looking for ANY information on this swap. There’s very little out there when it comes to ZF5’s in the Superduty platform.

My truck is an E99 with a ZF5 and the swap (from an auto) was very professionally done—looks factory. I need to know what hydraulic hose they used on mine… how would I tell? Is it the ZF6 hose or is it an OBS hose? I’m getting ready to replace the master and slave and would like to change the hose as well but unsure which one I’d need.

Thanks for any help.

Crawl underneath and check the slave cylinder. Both ZF6's I have are external mount. And i remember my old 351 which had a zf5 was internal.

From: Chino Valley, Arizona
both are external slave cylinders,
ZF6 slave pushes in and turns 1/4 turn to lock in to transmission.
ZF5 slave has a metal spring clamp that goes over the flange of the transmission.
you can not interchange them.
ZF5 clutch master has 2 studs protruding from the fire wall to mount it
ZF6 master pushes through the fire wall in to the clutch pedal box and turns 1/4 turn to lock it in
they are not interchangeable.

Thanks for the help everyone. Definitely has the twist to lock in place ZF6 style master and the spring clip external ZF5 slave.

Just hung up on what hose was used.. maybe I could reuse the hose I have I guess they don’t really go bad do they?

As for bleeding I’m a little nervous trying to bleed the system with a plastic slave last time I tried I easily stripped the bleed screw on a different truck—doh! Any tips or suggestions for bleeding these correctly?

Edit: also what’s the easiest way to remove the hose retaining pins on the master and slave? Tiny punch and hammer? Does the hose have an oring on it? Sorry for all the newb questions I’ve never changed these before on a Ford anyway..

yes they can go bad, they are plastic
I normally open the set screw and let it gravity bleed first, then close that and then manually stroke the slave cylinder several times before installing it.
yes tiny pin punch and hammer. the new slave and master should come with new o rings.
