I was just wondering how many people on here had rust over their rear fenders, my friends 1991 and my 1993 f-150 have the cancer there. it seems to be pretty popular.
My '84 F150 (belongs to my boss now) had bad cancer over all four wheel wells. I must admit that this truck got washed about 6 times over the last 10 years, so I probably deserved it.
Yep. rusty wheel-wells. Rusting from the inside and it's pretty bad. Only the rear though. The truck spent most of its life in Florida near the beach (helllloooo salty air!!)
I have an 82 that I replaced the bedsides on in 96. They are both rusting through again. I lived outside of Salt Lake, UT for a winter, so the salt on the roads didn't help any. The reason they are rusting is that there is an inner fender welded to the lower edge of the wheelwell. Dirt, mud, salt, and road grime collect there, and retain the moisture. To help rid this problem, powerwash this area from the rear of the bed (you'll have to get under the vehicle to access this). This will wash out the grime so moisture has nowhere to live. I did this for the first 2 years I owned mine, and they were perfect. After letting it sit for the last 2 years, the rust is back.
So far, I've been really lucky. I guess I must be on chemo or something...
I see more and more supercabs with rust underneath the supercab part...I guess I missed that because mine are reg cabs. My father says that they rust from the outside in...I don't know, but I keep the outside and insides of the wheel wells, as well as the cab and box corners as clean as possible.
