92 E-150, 95k miles, 5.8L; between 66-70 mph, vibration/shutter begins starting out gradually and gets stronger like a severe out of balance tire condition then gradually dicipates and finally disappears until the cycle repeats. As a whole, the vibration takes place for a total of 30-40 seconds from start to disappearance then starts over again after about 10-15 secs. Have replaced drive axles, u-joints, driveline balanced, rotors replaced twice, tires replaced twice w/ brand new set(bridgestone/michelin ltx-p235/75r15xl). Never seen a vibe like this that wasnt constant. Changed fluid and filter this time last year 20k ago. Torque Converter? internal problems worthy of rebuild. Please advise

It does sound like a torque convertor.Ford dealers are now using,or have available a mercon 5 fluid that is synthetic. It has helped a lot of transmission shutters dissapear.Make sure they drain the torque convertor when changing fluid.

Might want to check driveshaft, at the splines in the slip joint, if these are not lubed the shaft tends to "stick" in one position and must wind-up alittle bit before it lets loose. This allows the suspension to move up and down while allowing the shaft to extend or compress as needed. This may cause a "bump" or other vibes, most noticealbe when starting out. Make sure you have no side play in the shaft at this point, if you do, the splines have seen better days and should be replaced. ..........
I have a 1990 1/2 ton with the e4od automatic transmission. For the past 3 years, I have experienced a vibration both in-town (35 mph) and on the highway (65mph ) that feels like driving over a washboard road. Usually it is when I am driving up a long hill, but not always. I've rebuilt the rearend and replaced the U-joints. The local Ford dealer diagnosed a slipping torque converter, but wouldn't guarantee that a new $725 torque converter would fix the problem. They also mentioned that most slipping torque converters are worse than the one in my truck. Has anyone else experienced this problem?
Thanks in advance.
1. "vibrations"
does your truck have a C-V joint on the rear driveshaft, if so I would be looking at it, I had a 90 big Bronco it vibrated badly, the faster you went the worse it was, the u-joints were fine ,the C-V joint was shot, had it repaired at a driveshaft shop , & it was fine from there on.

and some people siggest replacing the tranny fluid/filter in other bronco/ford message boards..like this one:
You might want to change the fuel filter immediately if you haven't since you got your truck. The stumble you feel could be the engine lacking torque 'cause of fuel flow problems, which will make any automatic trans. act funny.

I have a '90 F250 w/ 460 & E4OD trans. Whenever it shifts into O/D with a bit of a load, like under acceleration, the truck shudders for a second or two and then makes the shift. Is this an indication of problems requiring major surgery on the near future? Any ideas are appreciated.

the first thing i would try before i thought about surgury is fluid/filter change. has it been over 25,000 since the last. If you carry heavy loads this will require a shorter fluid/filter change intreval
