Well guys, got the rear in-tank fuel pump replaced this morning. Total cost was $191 for a Master brand pump with lifetime warranty at Checker Auto Parts...total time was 3 hours with some good help from a neighbor (third arm/hand). Changing the pump was a breeze once the tank came out/off. Putting the tank back in was a real b*llbreaker though. Have now determined that front tank fuel pump is faulty (bad selector valve) as it sucks up the return fuel from the back FDM and eventually overfills. So, next month's project is the front in-tank pump. Anyone know a ballpark cost for it? Think next time I'll raise the bed instead of dropping the front tank, even though it looks to be a lot easier than the rear tank. Any replies/estimates/tips are appreciated.
Hey depending on what year your truck is, there may be a recall for this problem. Seems to me that there is a tech bulliten and recall depending on the year. It has to do with the fuel selector and possible fire hazard. go to
Granatelli Motorsports sells a fuel pump, supposedly applicable to our Ford trucks. The picture in Jeg's catalog shows a small, metal cylindrical pump.
You've pulled the entire plastic/metal fuel delivery module out of the fuel tank, take a close look at it if you would:
1. Does it look as though the pump itself is removable from the module?
2. What size is that pump, i.e., diameter and length?
i replaced my front tank fuel pump a little while ago. f-150 4x4 5.0 19 gal tank. one tip is get the lock ring that goes on top because its always rotted. i got the lock ring from ford my town sucks for parts. also watch the sender it can break easily.i thinf i paid 120.00 for the pump. its a ballbuster getting it back up alone. also i put silicone on the straps to keep it from vibrating. good luck
