truck wont start when worm
I have a 1996 f-150 4.9L that has a hard time starting after being run and then shut off. Some times it won't start at all. Other times it takes a few tries to start. once started it runs fine. It seems like the engine is not geting any gas. Could it be the fuel pump? once the truck is started it runs fine. only has 61,000 mi and gets over 18mpg. Please help.

Best way to check the fuel system is have a look at its pressures ....Running pressures , pressure when the regulator vacuum is disconnected , engine off ....check how long the pressure takes to bleed off , how quickly pressure builds when the key is turned on . When was the last time the fuel filter was replaced ? Idle pressure should be 40 to 60 Psi @ Idle . Have a look at all that and let us know the results .

This is a typical problem. If you crawl under you rig, you'll notice that the starter is positioned nicely, right next to the cat. Which means after you drive your truck, the starter collects a whole slew of heat from the exhaust. In my case, I had the same symptoms and it was my starter. I replaced it and it's been fine ever since.

My 92 F-150 did something similar execept after it was shutoff for about 15 minutes it would not start back rest of the day. found shooting starting fluid in the throttles would allow it to start back up. Found the Throttle Position sensor was bad.
