Saying goodbye to the EX and saying hello to the Ex!
With no trailer to tow, I sold my 2001 Excursion LTD 4wd, and bought a 2012 Expedition LTD 2wd. It has the 5.4L Triton, and is in SWEET shape. I'll put up a few pics in the 01-14 Expedition forum. The only bad thing is the 3.31 rear end. If I get another trailer, I may opt for a 3.73, even though I will stay around 6- 7000 lbs at most if we get one more trailer before we get too old. The EX was a little big for my needs, but I kept it as long as I could(a year after it was paid off) before downsizing. See ya around the bend,,,
Towing 7000 lbs you will wish you had kept the excursion.
the newer rigs are very nice to drive just sold my 2011 ecoboost
that engine is amazing my last two 5.4 liter rigs were just gutless.
More than likely will get less than 6000 lbs, if we get another. As it turns out, this doesn't even have the tow package so limited from the get-go. I would never consider more with a 3.31 rear end. I could see maybe upgrading to a 3.73, which would be perfect for me. I am enjoying all of the tech in the LTD. I need to straighten out my nicknames. The Excursion was the EX, the Expedition is crowned the Ex, so I guess my son's Explorer should be the ex? If you pronounce the ESC in Escape a certain way, and we had one, it would be the x, as in xape.../silly stuff
Recently replaced the '97 F150 4x4 (5.4) with a '14 F150 4x4 (5.0).
Recently replaced the '04 Expedition with a '16 Expedition.
2000 Ex (limited, 4x4, 6.8) for towing.
Never had a complaint with the 5.4 towing, and the 5.0 is at least as good. Of course, neither can beat the 6.8.
