A few weeks back I had to replace my DPF. Once the DPF was replaced I still had a check engine light, which turned out to be a sensor further up the exhaust, and the DEF heater went out. It was after the DPF replacement and before the sensor replacement that I noticed the issue.
First thing I noticed was that the turbo had a louder and higher pitch whirl. This is my first diesel, so I didn't put much thought into it, maybe I just noticed it more now or something. It wasn't until I noticed that I was getting worse MPG per tank (hand calculated and metered) and it hasn't gone up, no matter how light footed I try to be.
I should also note that I have not towed anything since the repair, so it's mostly highway and unhooked miles.
Anyone experience this too? Any help would be awesome! Thanks in advance.
I don't have the answer for you, but a followup question. Who did the DPF replacement? I'd be talking with the shop that did it and see what ideas they may have. It may be worth a visit to a ford dealer also if they didnt do the initial work.
It wasn't a dealership because I've had issues with our local one. But this is my next step, just wanted to get some feelers out there to see if there are similar experiences. Thanks though!
