I have to admit, I really haven't explored all the features of my F-250. I realized that the tow/haul mode button actually switched to multiple drive modes. How much difference does the eco mode make on gas? I've been in normal the entire time I've had the truck.
I tried ECO mode and after a week went back to Normal. It may have been a little better mileage but the truck felt doggie. That experiment is over for me.

I bet Eco mode on a Super Duty isn't anywhere near as doggie as the Eco mode on my Prius! LOL
I would agree with the doggie comment, but when I'm out putting around and don't need the power, its fine. Id guess about 1 mpg better is all. It is defiantly noticeable tho.

From what I understand, on most vehicles, "Eco Mode" is a pedal response tuning and not an engine tuning. It just makes the computer think you are not pressing as far down on the pedal as you actually are.
I do not yet own the F-250 I want so I'm asking what an owner would think obvious:
Once you get off the surface streets and on the expressway can you not switch to ECO mode on the fly? And what benefit would ECO mode be at expressway speeds?

I just did this experiment running 80 MPH. I did 30 miles in normal mode and got 13.5 MPG and then zeroed everything and switched to ECO mode and got 13.2 MPG. It seems at high speeds ECO isn't the way to go. Yes, you can change it on the fly.
I've been running in eco mode for a couple weeks - I REALLY would like to improve the fuel economy with these 4.30 gears.
I have noticed no difference in mpg but it is hard to tell because day-to-day I could go from city to interstate to country roads to towing a trailer, depending on what my week looks like.
BUT I have twice had unwelcome lag in traffic situations where I needed some get-up-and-go.
Anyone else have some data on this because I'm thinking about keeping things in normal moving forward.
To get the actual mileage per gallon you would have to replicate exact drive. I have heard it is not extraordinary but you may see 1-2 mpg depending on several things. I was told by a friend who has had HD trucks his whole life, he said to me, you don’t buy them for fuel economy.....lol
But I understand trying to get a few more mpg from a tank if you are just putting around.
I don’t have an SD,...but from owning a ‘ 20 Lincoln Navigator,...I always put it in Eco Mode. The biggest differences that I see, is that it shifts quicker to keep the rpms lower, and it pulls power, plus doggie pedal response. Highway fuel economy stays the same. City fuel economy may increase a little bit.
Eco mode is really for highway use and may actually hurt fuel economy in hilly country by lugging the engine.
I've yet to use eco and likely won't but live in hilly country with 3.55 gears.......2021 F250 7.3
My 2021...in ECO mode simply holds gears longer, lugs the engine vs downshifting. I would think this is ok on flat-ish highways with no trailer but around the city i sure don't like it nor use it..and as stated above it probably hurts overall MPG's.
Eco mode works best for me on highway/long trips 14-16 mpg 70mph (Especially when you resume cruise it doesn't floor it till it get to highway speeds). Tow/haul is really good for the obvious jobs and also for grid lock or tight tight traffic. Suuuuuper fast off road slippery mode with sport/advance trac activated is so rad! but ya eco mode in town or going slow.....lame
