Alternator won’t charge good enough

Hi, I’ve been having problems with my alternator charging at only 11.8 volts and I don’t know why, I converted it to a 3g alternator hoping it would help solve my problem but it didn’t, my ground appears to be just fine since I’ve screwed with it so much and tested it. And I redid the pretty much all the wires except the “i” one and I don’t know what to do anymore. Thanks

Have the alternator tested and reevaluate your wiring.

So you replaced the reliable 1G set up with 3G and never bothered to diagnose the fault with the 1G set up.

Well what wiring diagram did go by to wire in your 3G ?

Yes, it use to be a 1g and it was going strong and I had a brand new (not rebuilt) 3g that was ready to be swapped in so I figured I might as well put it to good use. I’ve checked my wiring about 10 times and it’s correct

The belt(s) might be slipping even though you can't hear it. The 3G needs a lot of turning force to work efficiently. Try adjusting it to a position you might think is a bit too tight.

You verified 12V on the I wire? And that the A wire is going to the same place as your B+ ?

If those are good then as 6t6 mentioned you prob have a belt slippage issue.

It probably is the belt slipping cause every so often it squeales really loud, I just don’t know how to fix it because it’s as tight as I can get it

Don't follow that diagram. The yellow wire should run to the hot side of the solenoid and not connect the old A terminal.

But... doesn't "B+" mean "battery positive"?

Are you using a two-belt pulley?

Also, belts do stretch, try replacing it.

Yup that diagram is fine, one of the few that are actually wired correctly.

I’m using one belt and it’s new but the bottom bracket was kind of hard to get on when installing the 3g, maybe I need a different lower bracket

Yes but there is some obvious issues in that diagram. You can't use 6ga cable, you need 4ga minimum cable and need a inline mega fuse. The A terminal shouldn’t be connected to the old A terminal it needs to go to the battery or hot side of the solenoid. The old A wire runs through the dash gauge cluster. If you apply battery voltage to the A terminal you should have full charging voltage.

I’m using the same alternator to solenoid wire with new connections, 175 amp mega fuse, and the A terminal was already connected to the hot side, it’s the I which runs to the gauge cluster and the connections are good on it. At this point I’m convinced it’s the pulley slipping
