Hey guys I'm having a problem getting my truck to fire up. I have a '93 F-150 5.0 with the E4od. It's getting gas but, just won't fire up. It'll crank and crank but, won't start. What would be some good points to start to look ? ICM, distributor, what? Thanks guys.
I am beginning to think my truck is getting to that point myself....I have a 90 F150 w/ the 5.0, I am going to change plugs and wires soon, hopefully that will give me quicker starts......On cold mornings it likes to crank for 5-10 seconds before it fires up....I do remember on another vehicle w/ totally different engine, it did not start due to a crank sensor, needless to say I had that replaced (It was a 2000) so I had no idea where anything on it was, the vehicle started and ran fine.....let me know if you have any luck with it......
Turn key on, look for "check engine" lite. This,ll tell ya if ecm alive. No lite? ECM has batt power, key on power thru ecm relay and must be grounded. Got lite? Pull coil wire from ign coil and crank. Got spark? Reconnect wire, pull plug wire from plug, crank engine . No spark from ign coil? Using test lite, connect alligator clip to + batt terminal. Pointy end in neg side of two wire connector at coil. Crank engine, test lite should pulse. No pulse? Ign module, pick-up coil, or timing chain. Got spark out to plug wires? Find little valve on metal fuel with a plastic cap. Depress valve while cranking. Fuel should spray out. No fuel? Fuel relay, pump or inertia switch. Got fuel pressure, spark and ecm alive? Same set up with test lite, disconnect injector connector. Two wires, one has 12 volts with key on, other one pulsed ground by ecm. No pulse? Probable TPS bad. Green wire from TPS should be about .5 volts closed throttle, 4.5 volts wide open throttle. Got spark, fuel pressure and injector pulse? Check compression-back to chain again. Hope this helps.
