Precursor: I have replaced both solenoids and cam sensors in the last few weeks, but the solenoids are from different manufacturers.
That being said, my truck started back with the rough idle "deiseling" sound and vibration at idle once at operating temps after a solid week of running perfectly. I did discover that I'd messed up one of the terminals to the driver side solenoid connector the night before it started running like crap again, but even after fixing it it's still running like garbage.
My question(s) is/are: Could I have fried the solenoid by messing up the terminal? Does having two manufacturers of the solenoid matter?
IMHO...unplug the solenoid and se if that makes a difference....
It does. I gave up trying to fix it for now as I keep running into one issue after the other. Currently I am running it with the solenoids unplugged thus leaving the cams retarded and have no power or fuel efficiency. I hope that doesn't ruin anything else...lol
I haven't spoken to anybody that has told me this, but that's exactly what I suspected, or at least that they might need to be the same manufacturer. I guess I'll be popping the valve covers back off and swapping them again soon. Thanks for the input.
I'm all ears if anyone else wants to chime in on this. I've had a heck of a time with this thing lately.

Do a search on here ,only use genuine parts. The only exception is the addition of the HV oil pump during a timing set refresh.
*Update*
I finally got around to ordering the new solenoids from the dealership. They're price was as good as anywhere for genuine Ford parts. I put them in last week and the problem is resolved. Never again will I replace internal engine parts with anything but OEM. Thank you all for your inputs!
The labor is so intensive to get at the chains and VCT solenoids
I use only OEM parts on the ones I fix (you can get an OEM kit on ebay with Ford chains tensioners and vct's for about 450)
Good luck
