Difference between 2020 F250 and F350.

So if we can compare apples with apples,
let’s say both vehicles are going to have the new 7.3 gas engine. And 4 WD. 10
speed.
1. What will be the difference in the transmission, axles, and leafs, if any?
2. Any other differences?

Separate question.
I see online when building an F250, Ford won’t allow the extra heavy duty towing package unless you order the diesel. Could you get that package if you ordered thru the dealer?

1a. Both will get the same new HD 10-speed transmission

1b. I don’t know for sure which rear axle (Ford Sterling or Dana). This 2020 F250 7.3 appears to have a Ford Sterling rear axle: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...l#post18992905
This 2020 F350 7.3 owner stated his truck is fitted with a Dana rear axle: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...l#post19024336

1c1. Standard F250 rear springs are three leaves regardless of wheel and tire size. Camper pkg adds an aux leaf, rear stabilizer bar, and stiffer front coil springs on trucks with 17” wheels and tires and 18” wheels and tires.

1c2. F350 SRW gets trickier. Assuming 18” or 20” wheels and tires, rear springs are four leaf plus an aux leaf. Camper package (n/a 20” wheels) adds rear stabilizer and stiffer front coils.

1d1. Max F250 7.3 GVWR is 10,000 lbs.

1d2. F350 7.4 4x4 GVWR up to 11,900 lbs available.

The F250 HDTT is only available with the diesel.

jim, you never fail to bring the best information on here. Nice to have someone so knowledgeable with us. With that said, just wondering how many times you've read your whole owners manual? I'm on my third time & STILL picking things up.

Thanks for the information.
Regarding 1d2.: do you know what options guarantee the 11,900? In other words, are some combination of heavy service front, snow plow and/or camper package needed?

I must confess that — technically — I’ve not read the entire OM (i.e., every page, top to bottom). But I have read most it it — several times — and I too continue to learn from it.

I consider this site to be a two-way street: I learn from it, and I try to contribute.

Thanks,
Jim / crewzer

I'm in the belief that when you order the 7.3 with 4.30s, you get the Dana axle. The 4.30s really increases your towing capacity and Ford feels the Dana is a better fit. The 2020 7.3 with 4.30s I saw locally backed that belief.

F250

F350

(BTW - I think Jim wrote the damn manual.)

Not guaranteed, but the best we’ve been able to come up with so far is this:

2020 F350 SRW 7.3 4.30 4x4 CCLB with 18” wheels, LT275/70R18E A/T tires, and the snowplow/camper package.

For example: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...l#post19035086

I truly appreciate the generous compliment. However, while I really like our truck, it’s really not a very good manual, IMHO, so I must disavow any association.

I was a product manager for many years, and I tried to get my team to deliver manuals based on the 5 Cs:

Clear
Correct
Concise
Consistent
Complete

IMHO, the OM doesn’t meet this standard.

Sincerely, however, thanks.

are you referring to the F250 that would get the Dana with the 4.3 and the 7.3?

and yes, Jim, I echo what was said. Thank you for your experience and knowledge here always!

It was meant as a compliment to your knowledge. I agree, its not a great manual and it certainly doesn't follow your five Cs.

Yes, I have seen two such equipped. Is there something else optionally that contributes to it, maybe????

Thanks, I had previously followed that thread, but wondered if addition information had emerged. Building a 2020 f350 Platinum LB 7.3, 4.30: only 20" wheels are available and no camper package. I have not been able to find a window sticker with this configuration but I would assume the GVW would be limited to 11,500.

Yeah, no camper package or snowplow/camper package for the F350 SRW Platinum due to the 20” wheels.

Member “Under-Pressure” has posted several times about his 11,900 GVWR ordering torture. For example:

HTH,
Jim / crewzer
I just ordered a CCLB f-350 7.3 with 4.30 gearing.
On the dealer build site it showed up as 11900 gvrw with no camper package or snowplow package.
I ordered it with the lariat sport so that has the 20 inch wheels.
