Ok so I figured out it's the starter that's giving me issues FINALLY and I want a NEW not REMANUFACTURED starter.
Does anyone have the Ford part number for a new never rebuilt starter? I've been looking online for almost TWO hours and I'm only finding reman units on Tasco Parts/ebay/rock auto....what gives?
I was in the same boat a few weeks ago, granted different starters. I ended up settling on the motorcraft reman from rock auto. It turns over way faster than the origional.
Do you have anyone local you trust to rebuild yours?
No I haven't seen or heard of a shop since well ever in my area LOL I was looking at the ford reman from rock auto so you feel it's as good as brand new motorcraft? I'm just always leery on reman parts EVEN if ots directly from Ford...my original has 177k and 98% of them miles are all local town driving so countless crank overs from my starter.
I do. Mitsubishi made pretty darn good starters for Ford. At least the 7.3. IIRC you have the 5.4 (I'm on my phone so cant confirm if it's in your sig) so I'm not sure how transferrable my experience is here. My OEM starter was going 330k+ mi strong when I sheared the small post off during removal to make room for another repair. I jury-rigged a makeshift solution that saved me from buying a new one at the time but when I replaced my cracked and corroded battery cables, I felt more comfortable replacing the starter too while I was at it. I'm keeping the origional on the shelf for back up instead of recouping a measly $20 core from rock auto. This reman I have now has the expected Mitsu branding "Made in Japan" and it 'bout nearly turns the truck over with it. Time will tell if I get the same longevity out of it as the origional.
The starter is 139.00 list at the dealer for a reman. Have had no issues and have literally used hundreds of them over the years. Very nice reman units and are even updated and carefully sealed for water as part of the updates. Go buy from a dealer and get a full Motorcraft warranty and skip rockauto.

The Motorcraft warranty is not valid if purchased through RA. They are not a authorized Motorcraft distributor. If you want a parts and labor warranty buy from a authorized distributor. You could also buy from Summit, Autozone or O'Reilly and they are authorized distributors. Tasca has the starter for 89.00 and most dealers come down off list price easily. I also personally don't like RA and how they went to all automated customer service and there is no way to resolve any issues unless you like dealing with a computer.

Thanks. "Parts and labor warranty" as in they'll pay labor to R&R a faulty part?
I bought a reman from Ford dealer a few months ago for a 6.2. It works like a new one. It was less $$$ than the part stores.
On my '11 I particularly enjoyed needing tons of extensions and 2 wobbles/swivels to reach around behind the right spring tower to get to that upper bolt ......all while mostly working blind but if the gravitational pull of the Earth is just right I could ALMOST see the hex head I was aiming for....
Well I've never had luck with my dealer. Even when you guys say you bought a part for 10 dollars and I go to my dealer to buy the same part listed here... my dealer is 50 dollars for the part
I will call them Monday morning and see what kind of ridiculous price they'll give me, if not I guess I'll buy one from Tasco

x2. I try to avoid my dealer at all costs - and COSTS is ironically appropriate here.
I contacted RA and they claim the Motorcraft warranty is intact on parts they sell.
I plan to contact Motorcraft next week just to see what they say.... although I gotta admit I'm not exactly sure how to "contact Motorcraft".....but I'll work it out
I'm not loyal to RA, I'm merely curious and seeking accurate information
I have a local dealer that gives decent pricing, however I've used print outs with the price and shipping to price match at my local dealer. Worth a shot.

RockAuto has no live customer service, its impossible to talk to a human to verify. Remember RA is a mid level wholesaler and liquidator. There is no contact for Motorcraft unless you are a dealer or fleet jobbers as there is no customer service all is handled through authorized distributors.
