Hello everybody. I recently bought a Ford C800 with a 429 and Spicer 5052A tranny. It also has a 22K 2spd rear with code LB which is not in the manual. Just not sure what ratio it is. It is an ex power company utility truck. It has an Altec D990 rotating crane. It has 24,201mi and 622hrs on it. Everything works and the truck is clean. Wasn’t planning to keep the crane, but it is growing on me.

Pretty clean looking C series. Is that 429 exhaling though stacks?
I've got a 63 C850 myself. Numbers Dummy is the real brains behind this outfit but I've been tinkering with mine for about a year now so if you have any questions, hit me up I might have run across the answer.
The previous guy made the exhaust out of flex pipe from the manifolds up to the mufflers in the stacks. I’m going to make a better exhaust, but keeping the stacks. I posted a video on youtube under “releasing the 1981 Ford C800”. 1min video of it being back out of its resting spot, but it shows it running. Everything works, the guy I bought it from started it up, used the boom to move a 6V53 out of the way of the truck, stowed the boom, released the brakes, and backed it out to the front of his business. Not bad for $500...

I changed the oil, replaced the battery, and temp. Fixed some electrical items in prep for the trip home. The guy I bought it from has been nice to allow me to keep the truck there to tinker on.
I need to check into the carb I got with the parts truck I bought from Destroked. I'm currently running the Edelbrock 1405 600cfm carb that was on my 534 when I bought it. It starts easily and runs pretty well but it really is too much carb. You'd think it would need a big carb, but it redlines around 3400 rpm while just about anything else in a passenger vehicle or even a motorhome will spin 4500 rpm with no issues.
If your carb is too far gone a 600 cfm or slightly smaller carb should work pretty well on that 429.
If you think you want to get rid of the crane, do it before you ever use it. If you use it a couple times you will wonder how you ever lived without one. At least, that was my experience. I bought a truck with a crane planning to just keep the cab and chassis but at this point I'd buy another truck for a cab and chassis and keep mine as-is because the crane has become the best part of the truck. YMMV or course!
