Quick 4x4 question.

So I got my f250 8 months ago. It has manual hubs and electric push button.

I tested it today with car in park. Engine off. Locking hubs NOT LOCKED. The u joints spun freely.

I locked the hubs, they turns very little then I could not turn them at all.

I assume this means my manual hubs are working correctly.

Even if my electric push push button doesn’t work am I still all good for 4x4? Going to the beach Monday morning. Gotta make sure I’m good to go. Not sure if this guarantees my transfer case is good to go etc.

Basically if my hubs lock, which it appears the do, am I good to go? or may I still be out of luck if my electric auto button is messed up?

Mine's manual at each location so im not sure if u need the key ignition for transfer case. That said, unlock your hubs so they spin free. Then push the button. Transfer case should lock and you can try turning shaft to see if it locked. Since u know your manual hubs work, should be good to go if that checks out too.

An easy test is to lock your hubs and engage the 4wd. Do a slow tight turn; you should feel the steering wheel bounce around a bit as the front axle binding. Don’t force the steering wheel and don’t do it for more than a few feet.

I’ll try this but my 35” tires make it tough to feel cause they rub also

Look closely at the hubs for a 'auto' and 'lock' markings. Auto means the vacuum shift on the fly that rarely works. Lock is the manual mode that overrides the vacuum system.
You need to turn them all the way to the little dot that marks the end of the travel.
Sometimes they are very difficult to turn, a tool can be helpful.
When you say they turn very little are you referring to the ujoints?
Wesley posted a great check for the transfer case encoder.

Yeah they turn alittle then stop. I can tell the locking hubs are working. I’ll do Wes’ test tomorrow.
