so I am thinking about selling my 2002 v10 F250, trying to figure out a fair price, truck is in Missouri.

Basically if something needed fixed it was fixed, truck runs and drives as it should.

 

It's a nice looking truck, definitely shows its been well maintained over its life. The rust starting to show on the rocker panels and around the wheel wells could be an issue to a potential buyer--for me personally I'd not want to pay top dollar for a vehicle with that going on. Where the rust is located makes completely removing it and preventing it from a quick return would be fairly challenging----left as is over the next few years it'll grow at a quicker pace eventually becoming quite a mess. What to do would be up to the new owner though.

There's quite a few years life left in your truck so someone who knows the brand and series shouldn't have any real issues paying the proverbial "fair price"----determining that for your area might be a bit tricky.

I'd cruise Craig's List and eBay for similar year and condition F-Series to see what's offered and what they've actually sold for in the recent past. The mileage is good, overall condition more than acceptable for a first truck or perhaps as a great secondary vehicle. Sorry I can't be more specific with actual dollar values---good luck with your sale, it should go quickly.

 

That rust will hurt your price big time for any buyer south of you. You couldn’t get $5,000 for it in Florida.
Keep it at/north of your current location and you’ll get a good price.

 

Good point. I think rust is a factory option for the northern states.

 

I paid $8400 for a like truck a few weeks ago. It was a 2002 F350 crew cab, lariat, V10, 4x4, 4.30 rear 145k miles, one owner, lived its entire life in Arizona and Utah. Lots of little things wrong with it, and one thing that may of shown the owner was "cheap", as a plug blew out and owner had helicoil repair rather than time sert or calvan,

In Utah, economy is booming and everyone wants a truck- so top dollar is paid here. I would of liked to have paid about 5-6k, but needed a truck as my 2007 F350 has a engine issue, so I pulled the trigger because of limited availability locally.

Your truck is likely worth from 3k-8k, depending on market conditions. Trucks are very hot selling right now, and people, IMHO, are overpaying for them (including me). I bought my 2007 F350 XLT new for 23k, as the recession hit and it did not have 4wd. That same truck today lists for around 40k.

 

Thanks guys, I know the rust is a problem and it is really half the reason I am selling, otherwise it is a great truck, no mechanical issues at all, if it wasn't rusting I'd probably keep it forever, but the rust just kills it for me and the price to repair exceeds the value. The other half is my daily commute has about quadrupled.
Maybe I will get lucky and a body shop apprentice or the like will find it a good challenge.
Anyone else with a thought on a fair price or one they purchased recently to use as a point of reference is appreciated, honesty does not hurt my feelings.
I suspect it will probably go to a landscaper.

 

That makes me feel a little better, im in a spot where at my age I may need just one more new truck, and was hoping the going price were closer to $10k (its clean and still <75k miles

 

Sell it northward of your current location and you’ll get the best price. Where’d you say you are- Iowa? Advertise in in northern Indiana or southern Michigan. They won’t be turned off by your tiny amount of rust.

 

For me I'd give a solid $6K for this truck---cash in hand, drive off with a clear or assigned title. For a working guy or the body shop apprentice this would make pretty much a perfect truck.

 

Sold today, I set my minimum at 8 but was hoping for 8400, was asking 8900. The person who purchased it seemed like a nice guy, so accepted his offer of 8, I might could have negotiated a little more but in the end I think it went to a good home and will be cared for so I am happy.

I've crossed over to the dark side as many on here would think, but a change in jobs changed my commute from 6 miles to 20 miles one way and the old F250 didn't fit the need any longer.
