Question 1950 F8 ,wrong motor?

We just bought a 1950 F8 to use as a yard truck on the property.Shouldn't this truck have flathead V8 for a motor. The motor that is in it is not a flathead and on the valve cover in raised letters reads interstate cruiser. It is an older engine, but man is it strong!I would just like to identify it for tune up parts.
Thanks for any help.

Alot of these trucks were converted after the old flathead's got tired. A common convert was putting a "Y" block engine in it's place. They had the rear mounted distributor. You need to describe what's in there a little better. I've heard of "Turnpike Cruiser" engines as they were Merc engines.

Stock was a 337 Lincoln derived flathead which was later replaced by the 279/302/332 (again Lincoln derived) Y Block.

Since the trannys by then were pretty much all OEM and standard patterns it was a matter of fabbing up engine mounts and you could put in just about any make engine.

Can you give a description of that OHV? How the valve covers are held down intake/carb ID, distributor location, and block casting ID, etc.
