Slave cylinder quick connect designer should be shot.
I have a 92 f-250 5.8L w/ 5spd. Manual trans. And the hydraulic line between the clutch master cylinder and the slave cylinder pops off every now and again just whenever it feels like it and strands me wherever the hell I'm at usually and wait till I'm a good $300 tow job away from home. That little retaining pin system they've got just got to be the stupidest thing I've ever seen. Why don't they use like a quick connect from like an air compressor fitting or something like that? Does anyone know have a fix for this or some kind of replacement connector that can be put on there.? Send remember there used to be a little white nylon sleeve that went over the male part of the fitting between the slave cylinder female feeling and the male fitting which is attached to the hydraulic line coming from the clutch master. It's not there I don't know where it went I'm not even 100% sure that it exist but maybe there's a piece missing in there that would keep it in a little bit more sturdy? Seems to me a hydraulic fitting like that missing any kind of bushing or washer or whatever would leak like crazy if it was missing but mine doesn't when it's connected it works fine and it doesn't leak but boy doesn't take nothing for it to come out. I sure would love to hear if someone found a remedy for this issue or if I'm the first person on the planet to have this problem. If not I wouldn't mind being the second person on this planet who got a permanent fix for it. Somebody out there knows what to do about this. Please share your wisdom with me. In exchange I'll tell you what the winning lottery numbers in your state are going to be next week. Thanks in advance guys
Unfortunately I don't know a good fix offhand but I feel the pain! Lucky mine happened in a parking lot, but I had to vacate the lot within the week for construction. Then I got mad cause the pedal wouldn't go down, stomped on it, and broke the PLASTIC master cylinder rod..... Hence, this photo:
Dad wouldn't stop giving me heck for it - the GMC had to come rescue the Ford. Luckily my boss at the mechanic shop (who put in the new clutch for me) took it in and fixed it for me for free.
