Hi, I don't know if you all remember me but about 6 weeks ago I posted regarding a '56 F100 purchase that my son and I are preparing to restore. We are trying to go thru the truck and get a fill of what all parts we know we need to be looking for. I've got a question on the steering,we are going to use a Fatman stage III (coilover) and we are wondering what all we'll need as far as the PS pump and so forth.I ordered it with the power assit because we are putting a BB429 in it. and it will be connected to a Ididit column. Thanks for the info I'm sure we'll have many more questions. Keith Oh yea my 2nd question are '56 hoods being punched out by anyone? Thanks Again Keith
You should look for a p/s pump that is used on the application your engine come out of so the brackets will line up the pulleys with the stock front end accessory drive. Or you could try some where like March Inc. to get an entire pulley/bracket setup.
Pat has a good idea. With the quality or depth of truck you are considering, it would look really trick to have new brackets/pulleys with a serpentine belt. Look here on our hosts site first, then the other usual suspects. Our support of our hosts is our way of thanking them for the forum.
Cfheck with Fatman on what power steering pump to use. Some of the Ford pumps put out more pressure than others, and your steering box (probably a rack and pinion) may need a lower pressure. There are adjustable restrictor valves made and sold for this purpose that I have seen in Street Rodder Magazine, but it would probably be easier and cheaper to get it right the first time and use a compatible pump.
I think the only reproduction hoods are made in fibreglass. I have never heard of one reproduced in steel.
I went through 4 trucks before I found a cherry one with no bondo. (I wanted to louver it, and you can't louver thru bondo!)
By the way. '53 to '56 hoods are all the same. Slight diference on the hinge bolt diameters, but this can be compensated for by using the correct hinge bolts for the hood.
Dennis Carpenter had a complete ffront clip on dispaly at the Charlotte Auto fair. The gravel pan and the hood were stated to be coming soon. Then there's always Ebay
