Hello, thanks in advance for reading. I have a 1990 Ford F-250 with a fuel injected 351W in it. My piston rings are shot, and I am going through about 3 quarts of oil every 2 days. I am able to purchase a parts truck with a 460 in it, for a good price. I am aware I would have to swap transmission and transfer case, but this truck would have those parts as well that I could take off of it. Is this swap a good idea? How much $$ and how much of a head ache? If you don’t think it’s a good idea, what do you think my best route would be?
It should be pretty straightforward. If you've got a complete donor it would be one of the easier swaps to do. More power, less mileage. Probably worth it IMO
I swapped my 88 7.5 into a 89 5.8 because of the rotted 88 body and the cherry 89 bod. Only real issue is the front cross member is different on the 5.8. It's not relieved for the 7.5 oil filter. I put a remote 2 filter system on from Amsoil and works great, 20 years later. Only now the 89 body is toast it'll be eliminated. I have two 97's on the farm now, and they have a different deal in the filter area because of the oil cooler present. Your mileage will probably improve as the engine is working so much easier.
