I just got a 1952 F-6 that has a 292 engine in it. I want to switch it out with a larger engine and an automatic transmission. Any thoughts as to what engine.transmission combo would fit in with the least amount of modification? Are there any suppliers that make the conversion kits of mounts to use, or are you aware of any articles or posts on this topic. Thanks.
I would start with the folks at Sacramento Vintage Ford. I know their catalog lists a bunch of different motor mount kits. If there is a kit made for it, it is probably a fairly easy swap. There are many other catalogs for early Ford trucks but this is a big one.
Their technical people are pretty knowledgable also.
Since the F6 already has been modified for the 292 I would look at what is available that would be adaptable to those mounts.
Something along the lines of an FE might be simple since they and the Y were in the same car chassis for several years.
A late 390 or 429/460 would be a natural for a big truck, both bolt up to a C6. Tons of big cars and trucks to get a 460/C6 for real short money as well as parts to make mounts.
Changing the rear to a highway friendly unit may be the hardest part, Id look for a Dana 60 or 60HD from a 80's era F350/E350.
