My AC blows through my defrost anytime I start the truck. It is a lariat and has the electronic control/digital display and steering controls. I have read multiple writeups about AC coming from the defrost, however mine isnt stuck on defrost, its only when I initially start the truck, then I can turn the fan speed down, wait a few seconds and turn it up and everything is fine, blows from the vents. Just curious if anyone else has experienced this and has this issue nailed down or a good starting point. Thank you.
I thought about that at first, but I'm not having any issues with temp(Which I thought the blend door's function was for temp, please correct me if I am wrong), just direction of air flow when starting the truck. It doesn't matter what setting I am on, when I start the truck it blows through the defroster vents, until I turn it down to one or two bars of fan speed for a few seconds, then turn it up. Air temp matches temp setting, hot/cold. I can drive my truck for hours and turn it off for a second and start it back up and it blows through the defrost until I turn the fan down and turn it back up. I have heard alot of people say the vacuum pump for air blowing out of the defrost, but mine will switch over after turning it down and back up. Just havent heard/read anything about that. Figured I would ask on here before swapping vacuum pump and that not working.
Yours is probably leaking the vacume reserve overnight. Check the vacume lines at the pump/resevior and the heater water intake valve. Mine was blowing out the vents weak and partially through the defrost. I replaced the pump and resevior, now it blows only out the vents. Ford charges an arm and a leg for that little vacume pump, however it also activates the SOF hubs.
Found the issue last night. Thank you for the input. Mine was the grey vacuum line that plugs in right behind the oil fill cap. It had come unplugged and was laying back toward the firewall. Plugged it in and now we are blowing straight through the vents & with alot more pressure than before. In case anyone else has this issue. It is a greyish line with a black rubber connection, running from where the pump is to a connection right next to the oil fill cap. Mine was had plenty of length that there is quite a bit of slack in it when plugged in correctly. Maybe this will help someone down the road. Thanks again. Now to start figuring out a few other quirks...
