Hey y'all, stealership won't tell me which injector is bad. Local other shop wants over 200 to diagnose it. I get it, biz has to make money... BUT doesn't help me when I already paid someone for a diagnosis... I just need 15 minutes with an IDS to tell me what's going on...
On the truck, it's running rough, like I'm running on 7 cylinders, LOL, shakes when under load, shakes under 1800 RPMs, but still drives. No codes, no smoke. Stealership wants 7k to replace engine harness, injector harness, injector, oil cooler and some other crap that it doesn't "need"... (it does need the oil cooler, but that's my fault for plugging it up during a flush to try to avoid plugging it up......irony abounds....) I don't think it NEEDS the harnesses, but I don't know the actual cause of the problem, is it a failed injector or a failed harness? Do they just want to throw parts at it? Do they not want to replace the injector without replacing the others because they are concerned they will break and they will be on the hook for damaging them? Dunno, but if it's the latter, then I'll risk replacing the injector and be careful with the harness or replace a pig tail if necessary or whatever.
From my perspective with the age of the trucks dealership service departments tend to over estimate so you’ll go elsewhere. Ask for written estimate if they haven’t already. It should state the diagnostic and the injector. I just can’t fathom they not telling which injector if you’ve paid for diag.
You don’t mention the other “need” so it’s hard to say much about the ballpark. If doing an oil cooler the injector harness is easy. The engine harness requires the A/C compressor to be moved out of the way otherwise easy with an oil cooler replacement. Injector too. Did they mention FICM?
A lot depends on if you’re doing this or paying. It’s real easy to screw up here if you’re not diligent.
Yeah they wanted to do an intake cleaning for 1400 and replace the egr valve which is less than 1 year old AND I just cleaned it as a diagnostic to another problem. But again sounds like they are just throwing parts at the problem.
Also, everyone talks about that AC connector being the hardest. Could I just leave it and cut and Butt? It works just fine cuz I just had my air conditioner condenser replaced a few months ago.
