Hi New Mexico people. I am trying to plan a route from Illinois to Tucson, AZ I have always went down to St Louis then 44 and 40 to Albuquerque down 25 to hatch then shortcut to 10. Looking up directions it is recommended to take 54 thru NM. I was hoping for local advice on this route pulling a 37ft toyhauler and somewhere to camp for the night. Thanks!
66 year resident here Your second route is my preference. A little smaller road Either one is a very nice drive. The Alamogordo run is the most scenic. A little out of your way, but deviating through Ruidoso is the prettiest run.
Edit: RV Parks are everywhere LOL.
After all, it is the Land of Enchantment LOL

I recomend the 54 also, alot more scenic and roads are not bad. I am in Alamogordo. PM me and I will give you my number. So if you need a place to stay for the night I can hook you up. I have full hook ups at my place.
