1977 f150 Differential upgrade help

looking to upgrade my front and rear differentials, I plan on doing the rear first, then front. I was told any 90's f250 differentials would work. Does anyone have any suggestions on this?

My truck is a 1977 f150 custom
351M
4 speed manual
np305 tc
d44 front
d60 rear

BBD, D60 and 44 are strong out of the box. What kind of "upgrade" do you want to do? Depending on your answer, there are a TON of aftermarket modifications (e.g. chrome molly axles with higher spline counts, carriers, housings, etc.) for your front and rear. Curious what a 90's F250 has that we don't.

It may be much less a headache to put better parts into what you have than try to fit another truck's parts into your '77. I built a Dana 30 front end for my old Jeep that made the Rubicon, Moab and a slew of Colorado hard core trails.

I did use a Ford 10.25 in place of a D60 rear. Mine was free but they are cheap to get and slightly better design in most areas. Only thing that sucked was the e brake cables are much larger so stock do not fit. I just used the factory 10.25 length and brought them out to the outside of the frame like the 1990 it came from. I just took my center pull cable and moved it along with a couple homemade angle brackets to hold the cables. You'll have to get your driveshaft shortened.

rear differential help

Well I'm looking for a rear with disk brakes for better stopping. Then also eventually go for a cummins swap. I want something that I can kill two birds with one stone

Agree that if you're gonna cummins swap it you want more axle under there. You'll be pushing the envelope on what a D44 can handle for weight, and the D60 isn't enough rear for monster torque.

A D60/Sterling combo would be much better. Be aware of early 2000s F250s, as many of those have a D50 front which isn't much of an improvement over a D44
