I personally don't think Ford will get the new Bronco right.
If you want a serious off-road vehicle from Ford it will have to be a pickup.
To the company an SUV is a soccer mom vehicle.
No matter how they say they want to compete with the Wrangler every design idea they come up with ends up pushed in that direction.
Why do they want to bring back the name if all it will be is a generic SUV?
Bronco does not have the name recognition among the market they are really going after.
I say no, and here's why...
First, Ford seems to be ignoring it's global experience in this arena (need I remind everyone of the photos of the Ford Troller from Brazil?). Rather than going back to the barn to see what they already have, they insist on starting with a clean sheet of paper. So much for Alan Mulally's "One Ford" mantra. Second, they're most likely going to overpack the thing with more tech than actual off-road engineering, turning it into more of a Jeep Cherokee than a Jeep Wrangler. I don't see a lack of tech holding back Wrangler sales. But I bet this new Bronco will have plenty of "ride settings" instead of a good old fashioned manual gear box. Third, this is taking too damn long. New Bronco by 2020? With all they have at hand with existing models and platforms it shouldn't take an additional 3 years to get this on the road... after having already spent way too much time trying to design the thing. Re-badging and re-engineering something already in their portfolio could of had a new Bronco on the road by 2018. Not to mention that this SUV hungry window of opportunity will eventually close... all it will take is another oil price hike to send a lot of these buyers back to something more efficient. Fourth, They're likely to price this thing out of reach for many enthusiasts. They'll pack the thing with so much tech and leather that your typical off-roader won't want to put up the cash it will take. Bottom line, Ford has forgotten the KISS principal that embodied the original Bronco, and that will sink this latest yet to be seen offering...
Ford failed on the Mustang so why would they get the Bronco right. I have very little faith in Ford on their designs of their iconic vehicles. GM and Mopar have stayed close to their iconic cars with the camaro and challenger. Ford couldn't even get the Mustang right. This is America not Europe. I would prefer that the Mustang resemble the original designs versus some European crap. The Bronco will end up based off the Troller and will be a big failure. If it looks nothing like the original Bronco (my favorite SUV) I will be done with Ford. I'm actually waiting on the new Bronco to decide what my next vehicle purchase will be. Get it right Ford.
Ford hasn't made a good truck/suv since the 1996 models! I still drive the 96 F150 I bought back then, and have not seen one since I would consider trading it for. Touch screens have no place in a vehicle, and especially a truck or offroad vehicle. I want something that I won't be afraid to take into the woods and get scratched up. If I have to pay $40K for something I don't want to even drive it for fear I will dent it or wear it out. I can get a stripped down Wrangler for about $25K, so the Bronco will need to have a version at that price point to make it worth it. If the Bronco doesn't come it at something like that price point, as much as I love Fords, my next vehicle will probably just be a 97-05 Wrangler
