35K miles later an update on my Oil cooler Pre-Filter

So no one will remember this idea\test I started several years ago when I installed a new oil cooler and BPegr cooler, but anyways I'm throwing my idea up here if any of you want to try this. First of all here's a screenshot of my Delta right before I tore my engine apart last week.

ran a oil cooler pre filter for 35K miles

Ok so here's my concept: Keep the dirt out of my oil cooler period. And here is picture of how it works:

Clean this if needed not your oil cooler.

screen fits tight in port at center of picture.

Not once has the delta got out of normal range while I had this in my truck.
It never ran very hot and it ran 30K of those miles with a dead cylinder due to a foreign object getting into cylinder #8 and melting the piston. Quite a trooper. I did have a coolant filter like everyone else along with my Pre-Filter.

The neat thing about this is the dirt has to flow up into the filter and I think gravity sort of helps clean the dirt off when the engine is not running and allowing the dirt to take an alternate route into the heater circuit to your coolant filter.
The bottom line is it's a lot easier to clean my Pre-Filter than to replace the oil cooler if the Delta ever gets out of spec.
