Truck running hot, years of sludge and prior repairs so I pulled the radiator and was going to get it re-cored, found out that in my area radiator shops are a thing of the past. I would like to keep the original tanks rather than aluminum so re-core is preferred. Anybody know a shop that still does re-cores?
Other choice is a new radiator from one of the many suppliers. They will all do a 6-cyl configuration and price is from $300.00 and up for aluminum. Rather not use aluminum but a restored original radiator seems to be 3 times the cost of a new radiator. Brass is available from Walker Radiator for about $650.00 so that may be the way to go. Options and options would be appreciated
I like restored stock too. I can still get a radiator re-cored in the Houston area, but the guys running the shops are definitely not young...
Don't forget to take the thermostat out and back flush the engine while you have the radiator out. I like to open any pet***** on the motor and blast compressed air in there too while flushing. Makes a heck of a fountain but knocks all sorts of crud loose.
