What color were hood hinges originally?

What color were the hood hinges on 53 to 56 trucks from the factory?

I bought some reproduction hinges and I want to paint them before I put them on. They are a grey primer now. I am assuming they were black but have seen no documentation of that.

Mine are and where black. I painted everything as original as possible - traces of paint under all that rust.

Abe - Can you give me an update when you get the hinges on. My 55 needs the hinges reworked. If you're repops work out well, Id rather do that. Just let me know where you purchased them and if they work well.

Thanks, Rick

It could be a while until I get them on. But I will report here when I do.

I got them from GAPOKC, I forget what the letters stand for but I think it used to be Oklahoma City Obsoletes. $89 for the pair! on ebay. Here is the link: New Hood Hinges 1953 1954 1955 Ford Pickup Truck | eBay

I looked at buying some stuff from them but they have a TON of negative reviews- so I passed.

The hinges look perfect and are made just like the OEM hinges. Hopefully they will hold teh hood open and bring the back down when it is closed.

No, I have not put them on yet. I have been concentrating on putting my new heads.

Hopefully, I can put them on sometime this spring.

Do you think I can put them on with out removing the hood entirely? You know, do one hinge at a time?

Ive thought about doing that same thing. I think its doable, if you had another set of hands to hold the hood stationary while doing the change out.

I know, I know! Keep bugging me and I'll get around to it. I was hoping for Maine warmer weather. Today it was 36° with off and on rain and wet snow!

Ha!
Abe, we haven't had much of that yet this year but next week the temps could get into the 60's for a couple of days.
That will melt a lot of snow after the rain we just had.
At this rate the snow melt contest will be over soon - I was hoping it would be over a month ago so I could work on the truck finally.

Not sure if you figured it out yet Abe. Pretty sure they were black. Still a little factory paint left on mine.
