I recently started restoration of my 66 f250. It has a 352fe with a NP435 and a Dana60 rear. The truck has more than its fair share of rust as it has spent most of its life on a farm and in the fields, but i like a challenge. On the bright side I am finding that the oil leaks and field dust have created a nice protective coating on the drive train.

I purchased the truck at a pig farm in MD. I got a good deal on it and the gentleman even drove it up to PA for me, so i couldn't pass it up. The truck had been in his father's until he took ownership of it in 95'. PO had been using it once a week to haul a load of coal.

The truck had an early 80s GMC bed on it that was quickly cubed up for scrap soon after its arrival. I purchased a new bed as well as a donor cab and doors. I started dismantling the truck on Christmas. I have spent the last few weekends on tear down. The cab is now mounted on a dolly and bed is on the rotisserie. Currently de-greasing engine before removal and next prepping frame for por15 treatment.

Im in a bit of a time crunch as this needs to be complete by June for my wedding, so i'll be moving fast. Stay tuned

What do you use for a degreaser? I like the line between dirty and clean that you have going.

I start with a mixture of 6oz of regular dawn dish soap in a 24oz spray bottle and fill it the rest of the way with hot water from the tap slowly to prevent foaming. I use a variety of wooden and plastic scrapers as well as nylon brushes. Its cheap, effective and most importantly low abrasion. I try to preserve as much paint and factory markings as possible for my personal documentation. The entire engine and frame will get a more thorough cleaning with por15 marine degreaser and steel/brass brushes before repainting.

 

That bed does look strange sitting behind a Slick, glad to hear it's gone!! I'm excited to watch you race to your June goal, when you've got the right amount of resources and want to it's amazing what can get done. Good Luck!!!
