Hello folks. I'm new to this site and am doing a resto-rod on a 47 Mercury truck. Does anyone know where I can find new chome grille pieces? These are different from Ford in that they run from side to side and each piece is shorter than the one below. Hey Beast12, if your reading this I'm in Sarnia too!
A far as I know the Mercury hasn't had any of the grille parts reproduced...guess the market isn't big enough to warrant the tooling to reproduce them. I've never even seen them on eBay...only the big top chrome emblem. The only Mercury specific part I've seen reporduced is the tailgate. Sounds like a nice project you have, the '46-'47 Merc's were some very ncie looking trucks. In case you haven't seen this site yet, check it out, on e of the best places for Merc truck info.
HOT ROD!!!! Installed an 1981 Firebird front supension clip, '80 or '81 Firebird rear axle with disc brakes, Ford 302 rebuilt to a 306 with a .030" overbore, 9.7/1 compression, new pistons, rings, line bored, rods rebuilt, crank turned 0.10", new oil pump, rebuilt heads, new double roller timing chain and gears, new Comp Cams 262, .456" lift cam, Holley 4bbl carb, stock 289 intake manifold that a friend sold me for $20, all new Autometer mechanical gauges in the dash, power brakes from an S-15, Vintage air A/C and heat, brand new reproduction box and hardwood bed, under the seat gas tank removed and a 25 gallon tank from a GMC Jimmy installed under the bed between the rails, 2001 Pontiac Sunfire bucket seats and safety belts, cragar rims with big BFG radial T/A's. It should be a fun ride. When I need brakes, wheel bearings, shocks, or springs, the parts should be easy to get.
I am in need of a 46 Merc Grill also. I have not been able to find one but found a company in South Texas that says they can make one using the grill parts that I do have to generate patterns for the various lengths. The bad news is the set up fee is going to be around $1900. My thought was to then stamp out about 10 sets and hopefully find 9 other buyers that was willing to go about $300 each to recover the initial cost. I have never done this before but would like to find a way to get the grill.
