When I got my 2015 I felt the power was so good that I wouldn't bother with tuning it. After 9 months, the early shift to 6th and late shift back to 5 was causing lugging and bogging and really got on my nerves and I was using manual shifting to avoid the problem. So I went to my go to guys at 5 Star and was really pleased with the tow tune which completely fixed that problem. More power and better shifting, what could be better? Well, a guy who went to 5 Star after me, decided he wanted more and tried Innovative Diesel tunes, first the Race and then the Tow with great reviews about both. I got my truck for towing, so I decided to try just the tow tune. I immediately noticed that shifting was crisp and quick, and as long as I worked the pedal with my foot, it was great and a little more responsive. But I am addicted to cruise control and that quickly showed that ID used stock shift points and I was back to the dreaded lugging/bogging. I contacted them about my issue and within 24 hours I had a new tune with the problem fixed, but now it didn't shift to 6th until 48 mph under almost neutral throttle. I told them about it and an hour later I had a tune that shifted to 6th at 45 and down to 5th at 42, just the way I like it.
So 5 Star makes a good tune and Innovative Diesel tops it with slicker shifting and better throttle response. Life is good. Towing was great with the 5 Star and I expect it will be the same or better with ID, but it is a great daily driver. At this point, I have no MPG stats, but 5 Star was better than stock driving and the same towing. 5 Star also changed my regen interval from 350-400 miles to 500 miles like clockwork. That is something that I hope ID does also, but it will take a lot of driving to determine that.
