1963 C600 owner in England needs your help !!

Hi, just joined the forum - I need some info on my C600 Recovery truck but am finding it really hard to find much on the net.

I recently dumped the truck into a water filled ditch (long story - not happy !!!) and need to change the gearbox and engine oils but can't find out what the correct oil spec and capacity is. It's a straight 6 with manual 4-speed floor change - sorry if this is obvious or standard spec but I don't know much about these trucks other than the one I own.

I'm also trying to find some parts suppliers to order wheel cylinders, service and brake parts etc - maybe I'm just stupid but it doesn't seem that easy, especially when you're the other side of the world.

Any help gratefully received so thanks in advance.

Russ

First, WELCOME to FTE!

Second, I moved this thread to the Large Truck forum.

I think we call a Recovery Truck a "Tow Truck" here in the States

Can you post any pictures of the transmission and engine, just in case they were ever changed and are no longer stock?

If you post your VIN (Vehicle ID number) and the info from the door plate, NumberDummy will try to figure out what was stock, but I want to make sure it's all the same.

Thanks for the reply, apologies for posting in the wrong section but my knowledge of old ford trucks is limited and I don't know an "F" from a "C" !!

I'll take some engine/trans/VIN pix and post them ASAP (the truck is currently in my storage facility so this may take a while)

Here are a few pix of the truck before it's visit to the ditch. The damage isn't terrible but it really p****d me off !

Wow, it's in really great condition!

And don't worry about posting in the wrong forum, if we didn't have a "Large Truck" forum, you would have posted in the perfect spot

The most important thing is to post the VIN and the door plate info.

I found it on ebay 30 miles from where I live. The guy bought it in Texas, drove it 3000 miles across the states and then shipped it home. He then split up with his wife and needed to sell it so I bought it - I wanted a classic truck to move my antique American and European cars around when they (regularly) go wrong ! He's become a friend now, the truck is superb and runs (well, ran...,) beautifully.

Need to see a picture of the Warranty Plate, so I can decode the other info.

Finally got a chance to take pix of the engine - I couldn't lay underneath to get pix of the gearbox as (for once) I had decent clothes on. If anyone could let me know the required grade and quantities of both engine and gearbox oil it'd really help

Warranty Plate was originally riveted to the door face. It's now attached with Phillips head screws.

Compare the VIN on the Warranty Plate to the VIN on the registration to see if they match.

135" Wheelbase.

M = Corinthian White.

C600 Tilt Cab .. 19,500 lbs. GVWR

91A = Standard Cab.

F = Borg-Warner T-98 4 Speed Manual Transmission.

52 = Timken model F104 Single Speed Rear Axle / 6.20-1 / 14,000 lbs. Rear Axle Capacity.

19,500 lbs. Gross Vehicle Weight Rating.

132 net HP @ 3,600 RPM

61 = Dallas TX Ford District Sales Office, where the original selling dealer ordered the truck from.

Thanks for the info - let's assume the details are correct, what engine/gearbox oils and quantities are used ?

I need to get this back on the road as a matter of urgency and have drained all fluids after the trip into the ditch.

I'll use 20/50 mineral engine oil unless told otherwise but am unsure about the gearbox oil.

That's pretty much what we'd planned to use but preferred to check. Any idea if the capacities ?

That's ok, I really appreciate your help. Re the VIN tag being screwed on, I've no reason to doubt that it's correct. Do these vehicles often get their ID's swapped around ?
