I have a 2014 sb crew lariat. My beds taken a beating. I jackknifed my landscape trailer hence denting the sode panel, tailgate, and bumper. My tailgate is crooked due to loading my sxs. Looking at replacement cost it seems to be cheaper to buy a nice aluminum flatbed to replace it. Anyone here dome this a regretted it?
I had a 84 Dodge 250 with a steel flatbed, the draw backs for me were it collected and through up more mud in the wet season, everything I hauled had to be strapped or chained, I eventually made wood sides to go into the stake pockets and used 2 2x12's as a tail gate, after the money spent on the flatbed, then the sides, I should have just paid the $1200 - $2000 for a take off bed and I'd have been better off.
I love my flatbed!! I can see regretting a reg one without the side boxes. But I love this one!
The sides fold down, and there's a spot front and back to slip a 2x4 into to keep stuff in place kinda like a reg box. I've hauled a wide variety of stuff on there and haven't had any issues yet.

Can you post a picture with the sides folded down?
That wasn't installed. Lol. I did the install myself because I would have never liked how the would have done it. I've got 10 3/4 bolts and the 4 factory bumper bolts holding this thing on all in factory holes in the frame. Than I made a harness to plug into the factory harness so I didn't have to splice wires.
Looks good. If a replacement bed was only 1200-1500 I would pay that, but ford short beds are a hit commodities going for 2600-3200 in my area and that's white lol.
I love my flat bed but then it's a 9'L and 7'w with front wraps. Flat beds are the best if designed properly IE: make it dump, goose neck, fold down/removable sides. Winch. The possibilities are endless.
For me the short bed isn't a big enough bed. Check the web for bed builders and see what all they have to offer for your needs and go from there.
I'm in the same boat right now, I had my passenger side bed panel replaced about six years ago. I rotted through the wheel well and the bed is in excellent condition other than that plus I have it rhino lined. this summer my drivers side blistered but the fluid film is doing a good job of holding it where it is. I'm so **** over my truck I won't lean on it or put anything in ml from the side because I'm terrified of denting or scratching the sides up so I'm at spend 2k on replacing the drivers bed panel and inner fender and having it sealed like I had the passenger side done or yet a custom flat he'd made with removable/fold down sides a headache rack and waterproof box's built...
I put this on after I jackknifed trailer hauling firewood. It is a flat bed plus a dump bed. Love it! I can put one to 3 sideboards in the side pockets so great all around.
I got it for free from a friend. The floor was bad in a few areas so I put all new metal floor in so it's good for several years..
I have a tool box on the other side mounted under the bed to the frame.
hav25wheel, how much would you say that thing weighs? How deep are the tool boxes? My bed is rusted out pretty bad....might have to build something like this instead of doing another oe bed.
