I bought a truck, an '01 250 Super Cab 4x4, off a seller on ebay. The truck didn't sell but we arranged a deal and I was the new owner. That was the first of June. My credit union sent them a check june 4th, that has been cashed, and I've been playing text tag and email tag ever since. The seller, a reputable dealer in Seattle, keeps blaming the shipper but his lack of communication is a bit unsettling. I've expressed my concerns several times and get all sorts of apologies etc. Today I sent a very explicit email stating that the credit union and I were not happy and if I didn't get an exact time for delivery they would be hearing from my credit union, their attorney, as well as, my attorney.
Am I out of line here or is this absolutely absurd?
I once had a small bucket truck sold on eBay. Shipping company (a broker) dragged their heels, lied about pickup dates & times until 3 weeks went past and the buyer backed out. I couldn't blame him, I'd have done the same.
Maybe this dealer is going through a broker to find a trucker. In my experience they suck really bad and I would never recommend dealing with one. They don't own their own rigs. They hang around searching for a trucker that will take the load cheapest, thus maximizing their take while you (and a buyer in my case) sit around for weeks.
A call to that state's attorney general could also be in order if you don't start getting answers. Why spend money on your own attorney at this point when there's a public agency that should look into this for you?
Called the Seattle BBB yesterday. The dealer has been in business since 1988 and has only had one complaint in the last 36 months. And it was resolved. My only experience in dealing with a shipper was when I sold a car to a guy in Kentucky. The shipper showed up a week after the transaction, just as they said, and got the car. Figured it was a painless ordeal, especially for a larger dealership. Maybe it is out of their hands but a text every few days would go a very long way.
If the dealer is using a contractor car hauler or pull from a pool of them they have on a list, it could be weeks before you see your truck. These haulers meander around trying to get as full of a load going to your area as they possibly can, other wise they wouldn't be able to make a profit on the hauling business if they just hauled one car from point A to point B. I tried to line up a hauler last year for my mothers 1965 Chevy convertible from Florida to Mississippi, I gave them a specific set of dates of when the car needed to leave and when to be dropped off, I went through a website for transporters, I received about 100 calls from businesses that said they could do it, and prices ranging from $600 - $1500, but when it cam down to it, they all said they could deliver within the dates and pretty much the same answers, I have someone in the area now or I'll have someone in the area in 2 weeks...blah blah, I finally hauled it myself.
You may be better off going online to something like Cheapoair.com or something, get a one way ticket, usually pretty cheap, fly there and drive back. I flew from Chicago to Tampa for $87 last August.
It's your transaction and your truck. But I'm not much on paying for a truck before seeing it in person.... Also, the way we operate our business, we don't send invoices to customers with accounts or cash checks/run credit cards until material has been delivered. That seems a little underhanded for them to have your money a month before you have your truck.

I'm not either. I was 99% certain I was going to buy my Kenworth from the description the dealer had online. I paid them $1,400 to ship it from Kansas to Tennessee just so I could see it in person and drive it. I couldn't have made the trip out there and back for less than that, so it was worth it to me.
What is the name of the dealer? I live in SW Washington and I can verify them easily.
Maharaja Motors and Service Center.
Still have cars listed on ebay. Told them Tuesday in an email that I was not happy nor was the credit union and that if I didn't hear anything regarding an exact time of shipment I would be alerting my credit union and my attorney. A short time later I was told by the woman handling my paperwork that I should hear something shortly from the shipper. Finally sent another email yesterday saying since I still haven't heard a peep my credit union and my attorney have been notified and I want the contact info for the shipper so I can deal with them directly. Zero reply. ....... And now my wife is not happy with the situation or me so that makes it 100 times worse.

It sounds like shipping was included in the price and was arranged by the seller ??
If so he probably hired some yahoo off Central Dispatch who was cheapest and can't deliver on the promises they made him..
FYI, Central Dispatch (like most of trucking and car hauling) is being over run with clueless foreigners who are unethical, unsafe, barely speak English, and could care less about the service they provide....If its not too late arrange the shipping yourself from a reputable carrier who has been highly reviewed...FYI, this is one of those times when you get what you pay for..
and before somebody calls me out for this post I'm a 23.5 year long haul trucker and ex-car hauler I've seen it first hand..
$890 for shipping. I caculated close to $1,000 to fly there and drive home, with air line ticket, hotels, food and gas, not to mention time off work, so this seemed the more practical alternative. Hindsight is 20/20 though........Still hoping for the best but I am beyond pissed off right now. Going to ask for either a full refund monday or at least the shipping refund and fly out there and drive it home. After all of this I hope it truly is as nice as it is supposed to be.

I'd say a report to ebay is in order also so that the SOB doesn't do it to someone else. Along with a less than stellar feedback.
I don't think he could report to e bay. By the way I understood the first post. They struck a deal after the auction. So I assume the deal was done outside of eBay. I could be wrong though it's happened a time or two lol

Or .... maybe I should have read it a little closer! Thanks for the correction.
