Ok, last week i realized that i needed new rotors and pads on my 89 351 W EB. [I have automatic locking hubs.] The rotors were grooved and the front brakes were squeeling.
Today i replaced the rotors and pads. I replaced the hub assembly totally correct and repacked all the bearings, seals and races.
While test driving the truck, i realized the squeeling was still there, exactly as it was before. The sound is not coming from the wheel caps, all three srews are tightened very securely.
Also, while taking off from a red light, i felt the front wheels slip. At least it felt like the front wheels were slipping. The truck feels like its loosing power through the front end. This only happens when i floor the truck. It kinda feels like a tranny slip, but im almost positive its not. This never happened before i did the brake job.
Any ideas? Please, im goin on a 500 mile road trip this weekend and dont wanna use the truck if its not safe.
You're gonna have to get under it and investigate - you're not giving us any info we can use. A squeal and a feeling don't tell us much. Pick up each front wheel and see if anything is loose. Look in the Brakes & Hubs album in my signature link.
I had a mechanic put new seals on my 1993 IDI Turbo Diesel, and the same thing happened. I didn't find out the 4WD wasn't working until I went off-roading (oh well, the turbo diesel part of my truck got me out). The mechanic came back out to my house and fixed it by putting two new seals and a metal disc like thing (I don't know because i don't mess with the 4wd or the front axles, as I would only make matters worse if i were to try to fix a problem). My post probably won't help but if it does, good.
I went under the truck today and i didnt see anything out of the ordinary. I know i replaced the Hub assembly correct and i know all the bearings and races were packed right. I dont know what the hell this is.

Thanx guys.
are you driving around in FWD? I'm just trying to figure out what the slipping is...
Dont know if you looked at this part specifically, but I had the same squeal prob and I knew my brakes were fine, come to find out, I had the greasable ujoints and they had gone dry. But unfortunatley, they had already done some damage to themselves so I had to replace them. Luckily its not a tough fix and is relatively cheap.
I am driving in 2HI. I use my 4 wheel drive hardly ever. I live in Brooklyn, New York and frankly, the only 4 wheelin i could do is to run over the $60,000 mercedes on my block.
I dont know if im driving in FWD, if u could tell me how to check, ill tell you.
The Greaseable U Joint comment sounds rather interseting. My father told me to check my U Joints as well, so i guess ill be reading the Haynes manual to see if mine are greaseable too.
One more thing. When i replaced my rotors i had to bang out the studs to get the rotors loose from the hub. I replaced the studs as best i could with a hammer and extension. I then put the wheels back on the axle and have been continoulsy tightening the lug nuts to make sure they press in the studs. Could it be that the studs are not totally impressed and are making the front wheels of the truck seem like its slipping during take off??????
Dont count on the ujoints being the factory originals so I wouldnt count on using the Haynes manual for that. Just take a look at them and see if there is a grease zert in the center of em. that will tell you
What do you mean the wheels are slipping in the front when you take off. If you are in 2hi like your are supposed to be on pavement, the front tires rotate freely and get no torque to them at all. The rear wheels are the driving wheels in 2hi not the front. Also, the front u joints shold not be spinning in 2hi so it shouldn't be them.
By slipping, i mean that upon take off and hitting the gas relatively hard, it feels as if i loose power through the front end. The truck will lag in power upon acceleration for a split second and catch afterwards. Like I said, it feels like a tranny slip but im sure its not. I use the term slipping to illustrate how the front end "feels."
Now, does any one thing the stude could have a part in this???
I got in the truck and engaged 4 Lo. I could never do this before because the shifter would get stuck in 4 HI and refused to drop into 4 Lo.
So i drove about 100 feet in 4 LO and shifted back to 2Hi. I turned the truck off, started it agian and reversed for about 100 feet. I put the truck in drive again and all was well.
Could it be that the Hub just needed some of the new gresses to be worked in. Im surprised that i got the truck in 4 Lo. It must of been when i repacked the bearings. Anyways, thanx everyone for your advise.
