Fuse Block Upgrade

Has anyone upgraded the fuse block alone? I know that a new full wiring kit will come with one, but my wiring is fine and its not in the budget to replace everything right now. I would love to upgrade the fuse block to blade or mini-blade fuses. It would also make it easier for me to add new circuits in the future. I've seen the idea mentioned in multiple threads, but have never seen anyone that did it. I tried a search with no luck. Anyone that can point me in the right direction?

I think that I could manage without any help, but if someone's done it I always prefer to read someone else's experience first.

I haven't done it, but I have been researching it and have come across quite a few people who simply used a junkyard block.

My 75, only has like five circuits lol. I think it would be as easy as wiring a block for power, then swapping each circuit over.

I have this page bookmarked,

I added an auxiliary fuse box (think it was from a Focus) to power my electric fan, headlight relays, and allow for additional circuits (fog lights, stereo, etc.) Not that difficult a job and it takes a load off the original fuse box.

I did a partial on my 74 f100. When I got it, I was searching for some electrical problems. What I had found was that most of the wires had been cut at the fuse block. I added a 6 fuse block for bat power items, and left ign power items in original fuse block. You can buy small fuse blocks from most Auto parts stores. You basically have 2 circuits, and so you would need 2 blocks. You can get bigger ones with the capabilities of doing bat and ign power in one block, but they get into the hundred dollar range.

I added a 7circuit block from Painless Wiring to my 76'. It has 3 Ignition hots and 4 Constant Hot. I have switched some stuff over from the truck and I run my tach\radio and aux lights off of it.

I actually have a hook for a two circuit fuse block, plus grounds, under $50 from when I used to outfit emergency vehicles so I was planning on using that.

HIO, great work as usual and now that you posted it I do remember seeing that in earlier pictures. What all do the relays control besides (I'm guessing) the hi/lo beams?

Thanks.

Driving lights, fog lights, inner and outer roof lights, rock lights... all are fed by the auxiliary battery.

Headlight relays are over by the main battery.

Turns out the fuse block I have a hook for will not have enough room. My current block has 8 ignition fuses and 2 hot fuses; the one I had a line one was limited to 5 ignition fuses and 6 hot fuses. Looks like it's time to fabricate.

I would simply add another fuse block to unload the original. This way you can save money for better upgrades.

You can see mine from a newer truck or ranger on the passenger side by the upgraded starter relay/solenoid (which I painted beige for some reason...) https://i.imgur.com/NorQDum.jpg

I'm sure you can find something that will work to off-load the existing wiring.

You bet you can ... Go to blue seas site.. They make marine electrical components. They have stand alone fuse blocks that are perfect for replacing our existing fuse blocks. Regular modern fuses... 8 and 12 sizes.... And relatively inexpensive... I give them four stars and use them in every truck I have.... Along with the Whalen 10 switch fused swithbox.... Makes wiring easy peasey

Yeah the one I had a line on is just like a roided out Blue Seas one, which I was also familiar with from doing some Google searches on the topic. I think I'm gonna push this project off until next year.
