pinging sound that no one can figure out
i have a 1992 f-150 with a 351W. when i start it up u can hear the pinging sound at acceleration it just gets louder when u let off of the gas you can't hear it again untill u press on the gas again. there isn't a knock sensor on this engine. we thought it might be an exhaust leak that wasn't the gas. i run 91 octane at all times. any other suggestions.

I had a 90 crown vic that had pinging after running fine. My friend and I checked the timimg it was right on. It had brand new plugs so that wasn't the problem. I don't even remember what I was dong but I had noticed that that belt had slipped out 1 groove on the crankshaft. I put in back on and tightened the belt all the way and it ran perfect again. It do chew up the belt quite a bit though.
