I need help, I bought a replacement transmission for my ranger. Of course it doesn't have the little tube the dipstick tube goes into on it. So I tracked one down and come to find out it is a press in product.
Anyone ever had to put one of these things in? If so what did you do. I didn't notice it was missing until I had the trans most of the way in.
The tube on my Aerostar (and Accord, too) had an o-ring so I never had to deal with the press fit. But, I'll throw out an idea. Assuming it has a flange that bottoms against the housing, can you slip a socket over it and tap the socket gently? Or a flare nut wrench? Or maybe take a washer and cut a slit in it? Or maybe you can just slide the washer over the tube without cutting it and tap on it? Just a couple ideas. Never had to do that, but that's the kind of thing I would try.
It should not be read difficult to press the tube into the transmission. I have used an adjustable wrench tightened to the diameter of the tube and tapped on it to push the tube into place. The correct size tube will fit without a lot of pressure. Lube the O-ring and manipulate it to make it sit properly in the groove.

take a 5/8 crow foot and extensions and run them up behind the motor, and have someone hit it with a large hammer while you make sure it stays aligned. It may also help to put it in the freezer for awhile, I did.
