Engine ID number on block, anybody know what this is ?
the number on the back of the block, is 9U146935. the numbers on the tag on the valve cover are 5.8w'D'(C2XR124) Engine Displacement 5.8l 351 CID trans.auto. problem is, i dont know if the valve cover is the original one on engine, so need to be sure the engine is actually a 351 windsor

searched forums, decided to get number off the intake, it is
D9DE 9425 CB, found out that the first D means 70's the 9 makes it a 1979 the D is supposed to be what kind of car it was in, but unable to determine what kind a car D stands for, any ideas ?

You will have a number on the block that is similar to the one on the intake it will give you more info on the motor so you can compare years....i'm not sure where it is on the 351 but on the 302 its above the starter.
this site page 6 tells the full meaning of Casting numbers....if you order the catalog (free) it will give you a quick reference page for casting numbers and the door plate numbers.
the D you were having trouble with could be the following:
Falcon 60-69
Maverick 70-74
Granada 75-82
LTD 83 and up

You have to remove the starter to read that number (yet another "better idea"), its not as bad as having to pull the intake then the heads to read the head casting numbers!
