Question Aerostar transmission seals

I am in need of advice and information concerning the seals on a 1988 Aerostar transmission. I am the original owner of the van and have had no problems with it. Eighteen months ago I had the transmission on the Areostar rebuilt. No problems until recently. With less than 6000 miles on the rebuilt tranmission (my wife only drives the van to and from work) the front and rear seals start to leak. The leaks are not minimal but substantial leaks. I call the transmission shop which completed the rebuild and am told that this is a common problem with the seals in this transmission. Now I know that I am car repair challenged but if the original transmission took 150,000 miles to go bad how could new seals take less than 6000 miles to go bad? I would love to hear your thinking on this issue. I do not want to get rid of the van but the cost of regularly replacing transmission seals is tough to take.

Thanks for taking time to consider and respond to my post,

Tom
