exhaust smoke in engine bay
in the past few months ive noticed excess ehaust smoke under the hood mostly during start up.
my truck exhaust is as tight as it can be
3in DP to a 4in strait pipe.
any thoughts?

Sounds like the classic up pipe leaks. Spring for the bellowed ones. I just put a set on my F350 I picked up at O'Reilly's, they are made by Dorman. The quality was very good, much improved over the older iterations and possibly better castings than stock.

Um..to my knowledge doorman does not do a kit for obs trucks...and their quality I have read is suspect anyway

Yea, what do I know, I just put a set on. What you THINK is probably more accurate. To the OP, I'm not gonna lie, it's a pain in the neck to change out the pipes, but there are plenty of tutorials on here to show you how.

Wow no need to by defensive. Maybe you could provide a link. I found super duty pipes on there site but non for obs. Nobody called you a lier either.

Did you put them on the truck that is in the picture beside your user name? If so, then that is a SD (Super Duty) '99-'03, not an OBS (Old Body Style) like the OP has and what Aaron was talking about. This is the '94.5 -'97 section of the forum.

Back to the OP's question, the up-pipes carry the exhaust from the exhaust manifolds to the turbocharger. They go _up_ either side of the engine, on either side of the back end by the tranny. As said, PITA to reach. Look for soot on the insulation stuff on the firewall on either side; that's usually a tell-talle of an up-pipe leak.

Dorman does make them for a SD but not for a obs to my knowledge. If you found some for a obs post a link

I can't say from experience that it's any easier, but the best thing I can tell you is take your time and go by yourself a 6 point box end wrench. It's slow and tedious work to do the job, but it can be done. Just did them on my truck. Not fun but the payoff Was well worth it.
