Hey fellas. Broke my carburetor, went to the scrap yard to replace it, and they had 1! 2 barrel carb off a ford, and it was frozen up. However, I found a damn near new edelbrock 1406 4 barrel, and brought it home for 30 bucks! I need to track down a 4 barrel intake now. I was looking at a basic one from summit racing (this is by no means a performance engine, just a cruiser truck) however it doesn't have EGR on it. If I don't put the EGR plate and valve back on, and use an intake that isn't set up for it, will it run like crap? I posted the link to the intake below.
It should run fine without EGR. May take a bit of tuning, but that'll be necessary with a new carb anyway. Your NOx emissions will be higher, and if you live in an urban area, that could be an issue from a smog perspective, but other than that, I wouldn't be concerned.
I appreciate the response. I have found some new/remanufactured carbs on ebay for about 150 bucks. Do you think I would be better off selling the eddy and going with a stock 2 barrel? Or mounting up the non-EGR intake? Will my performance really change that much spending the money on the intake or would an HEI dizzy and good plugs be a better option?
its on a 302. it's just a junk hauler/crap mover. Doesn't need much for power at all, but it does need to start in the mornings when I turn the key, and I wouldn't mind breaking 10 mpgs.
