With the new 2015 Aluminum body F150 coming out, Ford is looking at the future of trucks, standards set by the Government (EPA) and it appears as though a Ranger size truck might be back in the works are a near 3 year halt of production.
I wish Ford Executives would have retooled the Twin Cities Assembly plant instead of having it torn down and kept building the Ranger. But hopefully the Ranger will return and hopefully it'll sell very well. It was a great fleet truck.
The article you linked specifically states that the new compact truck, if it ever comes out, would not be the ranger, and would be smaller than a Tacoma. They speculate it could be based on the ford focus/cmax platform... Which would be a disaster. Unfortunate is what that is. I hope for Ford's sake they never do something that foolish.

x2.....The old Ranger was a small TRUCK, built rugged like a F-series and capable of real work..........slapping a pick-up body on a econo-box FWD chasis is a abomination.
