HI, I have a 1977 F150 with Type 9 Mirrors. The swing part of the mirrors are frozen or rusted, and I have sprayed them numerous times with WD40.
I know that the mirrors are designed to swing in. I think the spring mechanism, is stuck. I took the passenger side off and mounted it in a vise
and tried working it back and forth to no avail. Is there a sure fire way to get
my original style mirrors to operate properly and adjust in and out as they
were intended from the factory? Red77Ford

If they won't break free with some lubricant you may be stuck with what you have, trying to force them may wind up ruining them.

 

My '77 has the type 9 also, always stiff when in service, they don't like to move when pulled in ..... but a slight "pop" with the palm get's the spring loaded cam over top and then they move easier in or back out.
