I've been changing fuel filters every second oil change. This week I had a message start popping up in the message center saying: Fuel Filter Change Required.
Never saw it before. Anyone know if it's a computer tracked thing like the oil change reminder? Or is it detecting a restriction in the filter? Regardless I'm taking it in tomorrow for a filter change but thought I'd ask and see how it determines that it needs one.
It is similar in concept to the Intelligent Oil Life Monitor in that it is just an algorithm based calculation of when you should change the filter. It doesn't sense pluggage.
Same thing with my rig took to dealer for my 5k oil change and the service writer said it was no big deal since i change my filters every other oil change.

If you've been changing the filter every other oil change there's no reason to get them changed now. Just reset the reminder now and again when you change your fuel filter on your second oil change.
There is a sensor to detect plugged filters, but that will alert you with a "Low Fuel Pressure" message. If that happens the truck needs service ASAP.
