Hi everybody...I'm new here but don't worry I'm just as Blue oval crazed as the next guy.I'm looking at a '79 f-150 custom 4 speed 4x4 to purchase as soon as i get me a job(got to pay that insurance ya know) and i just wanted to know how much torque that sucker's gonna be packin'. I know it snot much for horsepower (117 from the factory) but i can't seem to find what the torque specs are. also would you recommend getting this truck or a 351M equipped rig? both are 4 speeds and 4x4. thanks much.
Ditto with Mattsbox99, the 300 is a workhorse but if you are going to go with big tires I would go with the 351M.
If you want more power later you can rebuild the 351M to a 400 or drop in a big 460. The upgrade path on the 300 is limited to a 302 or 351W if you don't swap out transmission bell housings.
You can buy a few goodies to make the 300 go good if you don't go overboard and ruin the engine like most people do with the 300 You can buy lots of goodies for a 351W.
You can buy quite a few goodies for the 351M/400 and more are becomming available. The 429/460 is well supported in the aftermarket also.
